The St. Johns County Public Library System invites the public to participate in its 21st annual “One Book, One Community” reading celebration, St. Johns Reads, which launched Thursday, Jan. 2. This event, focused on creating a shared conversation on a selected novel, will feature various programs based on “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro.
“For 21 years, this program has not only fostered a love of reading but also helped bring our community closer together,” said Kim Odom, Ponte Vedra Beach Branch manager and chair of the St. Johns Reads Committee.
Additionally, St. Johns Reads will offer a variety of fun and educational events throughout the month, all inspired by “Klara and the Sun.” These will include in-person and virtual book discussions and book clubs. Patrons are encouraged to visit any of the six library branches to enjoy the themed programs that are offered:
“Klara and the Sun” is available for checkout and can be enjoyed in multiple formats, including print, digital audiobook and e-book.
About the novel: “Klara is an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, carefully watches the behavior of those who come in to browse and those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. ‘Klara and the Sun’ is a thrilling book that looks at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator and explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?”
Funding for St. Johns Reads is supported in collaboration with the Friends of the Library groups. For more information about this year’s event, go to sjcpls.org/st-johns-reads, email sjcpls@tblc.libanswers.com or call your local branch library.
