Clerk’s Office to launch family law workshop

The St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller’s office has announced a new partnership through St. Johns County Legal Aid and the Law Office of Nancy Harrison to offer a series of monthly family law workshops. Starting Wednesday, Aug. 7, the clinic will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center.

“We understand navigating the judicial system may be challenging,” said John Rundgren, clerk designee. “This partnership will ensure unrepresented parties in family law matters have an opportunity to receive guidance before filing pleadings with our office.”

“Family law is an area of law that can be difficult to navigate without the help of an attorney,” said attorney Nancy Harrison. “My goal is to provide useful information and convey knowledge about family law so that the process of filing documents with the court and moving through the legal process to a final resolution is less stressful.”

The event is open to the public and free of charge. It aims to help residents understand complex legal issues such as divorce, child custody, asset separation and pro se filing of pleadings. The goal is to ensure everyone has access to the information needed to protect their rights and gain knowledge from legal counsel as they navigate the filing process.

Harrison, who specializes in family law, will volunteer her time through St. Johns County Legal Aid to offer general legal advice and clarify family law and domestic violence statutes.
